WORCESTER, Mass.—Convicted former Massachusetts House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi has again asked to be moved closer to home.

A lawyer for DiMasi on Wednesday asked a federal judge to recommend that he serve out his prison sentence at a detention facility in Rhode Island, rather than the minimum security prison in Kentucky where he was assigned.

The attorney says being closer to his defense team will better allow DiMasi to participate in his appeal.

DiMasi had previously requested being sent to a federal prison in Devens so he could be closer to family.

The 66-year-old DiMasi was convicted in June of using his political clout to steer two lucrative state contracts to a software firm in exchange for payments of $65,000.
