Southwick man killed by falling tree
EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass.—A worker for a western Massachusetts tree cutting company has been killed by a falling tree.
Police in East Longmeadow say 28-year-old Tyler Granfield of Southwick was working in the back yard of a home on Thursday afternoon when he was apparently struck by the upper limbs of a falling tree as he tried to get out of the way. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Granfield worked for Tyler's Tree Service of Southwick.
The death remains under investigation but police say it appears to be an accident.
The federal Office of Occupational Health and Safety Administration was notified and responded to the scene.
