WESTFIELD, Mass.—Westfield police say an officer fatally shot a man who stabbed another patrolman even after he had been struck by a Taser.

The Springfield Republican reports ( http://bit.ly/HAizyo) that Douglas Musto, whose residence is not known, was shot in the hallway of an apartment building early Saturday morning. According to a 911 call, his ex-wife called police as Musto tried to break down her door.

Police Capt. Michael McCabe says an officer tried to place Musto in handcuffs, though he was not being arrested. McCabe says he lunged at the officer, was struck by the Taser and stabbed the officer.

Hampden District Attorney Mark G. Mastroianni said another officer came up a staircase and fired several shots at Musto. The district attorney's office is investigating.
