SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—Fire officials say the residents of a house struck by a car in Springfield came to the rescue of the injured driver.
A fire department spokesman says the car crashed through a fence and traveled across the lawn of a home in the city's Liberty Heights neighborhood just before midnight on Sunday. The car then hit the home and became lodged in its foundation.
The homeowners, jolted awake by the impact, then pulled the driver to safety from the burning car.
Firefighters called to the scene quickly doused the flames.
Police say the male driver was taken to Baystate Medical Center and is expected to survive. His name was not made public.![]()
