Mass home sales up nearly 20 percent in March
BOSTON—Sales of single-family homes in Massachusetts jumped nearly 20 percent last month when compared to March 2011, the ninth consecutive month of year-over-year increases.
At the same time, median prices dropped in March when compared to same month a year ago, the sixth straight month of lower prices.
The Boston-based Warren Group reports Tuesday that median prices dropped more than 3 percent in March to $260,000, while the Massachusetts Association of Realtors reports a 2 percent decrease to $267,500.
It was the best March since 2007.
Warren Group Chief Executive Timothy Warren Jr. says the latest figures are an indication that the market has "a good head of steam built up right now."
Sales and median prices of condominiums were up in March according to both organizations.
