Worcester man charged with murder in child's death
WORCESTER, Mass.—A judge has increased five-fold the bail for a Worcester man charged with killing his girlfriend's 4-year-old daughter.
Richard Castillo was ordered held on $500,000 bail at his arraignment on a murder charge Thursday in Worcester Superior Court. The 33-year-old Castillo has been held on $100,000 bail at his district court arraignment where he only faced an assault and battery charge.
Police responded to the couple's home Feb. 17 for a report on an unresponsive child. She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The Telegram & Gazette ( http://bit.ly/I7my7H) reports that an autopsy determined that her death was caused by blunt trauma to the torso with a mesentery laceration. Mesentery refers to a supporting membrane or a membrane enclosing an internal organ.
Castillo's lawyer sought lower bail.
