BOSTON—Massachusetts officials are gearing up for the state of the summer recreation season.

The Department of Conservation and Recreation says the Memorial Day weekend also marks the opening of many of the state's ocean and inland beaches, together with wading pools and campgrounds.

The pools and beaches are free, though parking fees range from $5 to $9 at some beaches.

Most wading pools will be open on weekends through June 23, when all wading pools and state-run swimming pools will be open seven days a week.

The state runs 29 campgrounds, with fees ranging from $6-$15 per night for Massachusetts residents and $8-$17 for out-of-state campers. The state recommends that advanced reservations be made for campgrounds, especially on weekends.
