Fall River schools facing scrutiny

The American Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts and a research center at UCLA on Wednesday filed a civil rights complaint against the Fall River Public Schools, alleging its suspension policy disproportionately harms black and Latino students and youths with disabilities. In the complaint, the ACLU and the Center for Civil Rights Remedies said that according to federal statistics, the school district suspended 25.9 percent of black students, 23.1 percent of Latino students, and 13.4 percent of white students.
