Mass. clergy to hold "Prayer Walk" after slaying
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Clergy in Cambridge are planning a "Prayer Walk" to pray for healing and peace after a 16-year-old girl was killed in a drive-by shooting there early this month.
The pastors and congregations of Cambridge Churches United plan to begin the walk Friday evening at an intersection on the street where Charlene Holmes was shot June 3.
Authorities don't believe Holmes was the intended target when she was shot after she stopped to speak to a friend who was on a Willow Street porch. The friend was also shot, but survived. No arrests have been made.
The church coalition says the walk comes at a time when Cambridge must move past its grief and commit that the city won't "become a warzone where the armies of hopelessness and purposelessness do battle."
