Senator Scott Brown made a pitch Friday for his Stolen Valor Act of 2011, proposing to modify the Stolen Valor Act of 2005 that was ruled unconstitutional this week by the Supreme Court. Brown’s bill would punish people who misrepresent their military service in order to profit. The law that was overturned simply criminalized misrepresentation of one’s military service, which the high court concluded would have a chilling effect on free speech. Democrat Elizabeth Warren favors modifying the original act.
