Cat stuck in Mass. tree for 7 days is rescued
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—A cat stuck in the upper branches of a 60-foot oak tree for seven days -- and quite unhappy about it -- has finally been rescued.
Workers from the Animal Rescue League of Boston spent three hours Tuesday climbing the tree and getting a loop over the cat's head so she could be put in a carrier bag.
Owner Laurie Peltier says her daughter first heard their cat, Misty, crying from a neighbor's tree on June 27 but couldn't coax her down. The cat was higher than the Springfield Fire Department's 50-foot ladder and several tree companies couldn't be persuaded to attempt a rescue.
The Springfield Republican reports ( http://bit.ly/MTj36I) the cat's loud meowing got neighbors to start making calls. They ended up with Boston's Animal Rescue League.
