A Haverhill man and his dog are safe after a fisherman and his daughter rescued them from the Piscataqua River between Maine and New Hampshire. Chris Stephens, 27, of Haverill was playing fetch with his dog Penny at Peirce Island in Portsmouth on Monday when Penny swam out too far and was carried away by the current.
