Tanker truck crashes in Mass., spills gasoline
WOBURN, Mass.—A tanker truck carrying about 8,000 gallons of gasoline has crashed on Route 128 in Woburn and authorities have reopened the northbound lanes after closing the road in both directions because of leaking fuel. Two southbound lanes are back open.
State police say the crash happened shortly after 10 p.m. Monday and that preliminary reports are that the tanker truck collided with a passenger car. The truck driver has been taken to a hospital with unknown injuries.
Woburn police and fire department personnel are trying to contain the spill and are evacuating people from nearby homes.
The remaining two southbound lanes are expected to be open by 6:30 Tuesday morning, but the morning commute will remain affected.
Police ask citizens to avoid the area because of the leaking tanker and congested roads.![]()
