GLOUCESTER, Mass.—The father of a 2-year-old Gloucester girl who disappeared from a Rockport beach in April says he now accepts that his daughter was swept out to sea.

Anthony Harrison said Monday that he reached the conclusion after a group called Mission for the Missing investigated the case. The nonprofit is a volunteer group of law enforcement investigators and crime analysts who help search for missing children.

Harrison and other family members had said they thought 2-year-old Caleigh Harrison was abducted, despite police saying there was no evidence of an abduction. The little's girl's 4-year-old sister had talked of a strange man on the beach.

Caleigh disappeared after her mother left her children briefly to retrieve a ball that bounced over a wall.
