T to double its use of video cameras

In a major effort to improve security and safety, the MBTA is adding thousands of video cameras across its system over the next year, doubling the current number. The Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority has 15 to 20 security camera projects in the works with many more planned, said Randy Clarke, senior director of security and emergency management for the MBTA. About 90 percent of the cameras are fixed watching specific areas for incidents or vandalism.
