WOBURN, Mass.—A Melrose man has been convicted of severely injuring his 7-week-old son when he threw him to the concrete sidewalk during an argument with the infant's mother.
Carlos Edwards was found guilty Wednesday in Middlesex Superior Court of charges including assault and battery on a child with serious bodily injury for throwing the baby to the ground during a fit of rage, causing traumatic head injuries. The child was in the hospital for six days.
Police say Edwards met the baby's mother in front of her Malden home in July 2011 and the two argued over money. The parents do not live together.
The 35-year-old Edwards is scheduled to be sentenced Friday.
The child is now in state custody.![]()
