NEW BEDFORD, Mass.—Preliminary investigations into the death of an 18-year-old mother and her 3-week-old daughter inside their apartment in New Bedford have not revealed evidence of foul play.

That's according to Bristol County District Attorney Sam Sutter who said on Saturday that police detectives and state troopers are continuing to investigate the unattended deaths that occurred Friday afternoon.

He identified the woman as Reina Aicia Ramos and her infant daughter as Melissa Lorena Ixcuna-Ramos. They both lived at the Bullard Street apartment.

Authorities say a preliminary examination conducted Saturday by the state medical examiner leads investigators to continue to believe that the deaths are not suspicious in nature. A final ruling will be issued after all aspects of the autopsy are complete, which could take several weeks.
