Mass. man faces gun violations charges in RI
PROVIDENCE, R.I.—A Massachusetts man is in jail in Rhode Island after state troopers who stopped a vehicle he was riding in found a loaded handgun inside the car in Providence.
State Police Superintendent Col. Steven O'Donnell said on Saturday that troopers patrolling Manton Avenue saw the driver and a passenger of a car with Massachusetts registration traveling without wearing seat belts. The troopers saw the semi-automatic handgun after stopping the vehicle Friday.
Passenger Christopher Baker from the Boston's Dorchester neighborhood was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm without a license and loaded weapons in vehicles. The 29-year-old was unable to post bail set at $50,000 with one surety. He will be arraigned in court Monday.
The driver, 26-year-old Derrick Poole of Brockton, Mass., was issued a summons for two seatbelt violations.
