Kennedy's career in public service

In June 1964, a twin-engine plane carrying Kennedy crashed in western Massachusetts. The pilot and a Kennedy aide were killed. Kennedy survived, but a lung was punctured, a kidney bruised, his ribs fractured and three vertabrae broken. He was hospitalized nearly four months, and back injuries have pained him ever since.
