Candidates for Mass. governor
Timothy P. Cahill
Age: 50
Town: Quincy
Elected state treasurer as a Democrat, Cahill will announce he will run for governor as an independent Wednesday.
Cahill, a fiscal conservative who endorsed casino gambling and slots at race tracks, left the party earlier this year, saying he didn't agree with the Democrats' spending.
Cahill waved to his family after Patrick swore him in for a second term as state treasurer at the State House in January 2007.
