Dozens of bookmobiles once roared across Massachusetts towns and cities. But over the years, citing a change in the demographics and the cost of repairing and replacing outdated bookmobiles, libraries across the state have taken their bookmobiles off the streets. Beverly's red-and-white jalopy (left) is the largest of the four bookmobiles that still operate in the state.
