Robert A. Brown, president of Boston University, has solicited ideas from faculty, students and alumni about the future of the university. He is trying to make the campus culture more participatory.

Brown, who prefers to be called "Bob," addressed 500 university managers in the George Sherman Union during a conference he holds once or twice a semester to get input from the staff.
