Deval Laurdine Patrick was born in his grandfather's bed July 31, 1956, in a two-story brick apartment on South Wabash Avenue in Chicago. He grew up on the South Side of Chicago, living with his mother, sister Rhonda (shown here), and grandparents. When he was 14, he was awarded a scholarship to attend Milton Academy.
