The Fernald School is the state's oldest institution for the mentally handicapped. The school was supposed to have been closed in February 2003, but the closure process is taking much longer than expected. Diane Booher, center, took a walk on the grounds at the Fernald Center in Waltham with her 52-year-old twin brothers Ronnie Russo (left) and Randy Russo (right). Booher is the twins' guardian and visits her brothers often.
