Rakan, uncle, and translator
Rakan's uncle, Falah Abbas, listened to Aomar Nait-Talb, one of the translators who helped bridge the language gap between Rakan, an ethnic Turkoman, and the hospital staff. Because Abbas and Rakan had just arrived from Iraq, Nait-Talb, a hospital housekeeping worker, wore a mask as a precaution against infection.
