Rakan's homecoming
Rakan walked without support in the hallway of the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, a military hospital which treats US soldiers wounded in Iraq. Colonel W. Bryan Gamble, the commander of the medical center, watched with delight. Five months earlier, Rakan had arrived at Landstuhl on his way to Boston, shrunken, shriveled and paraplegic.
