She was a woman of faith

A Sunday School teacher in the North End before her marriage, Rose was a devout Catholic.

She wrote that in her travels, she noticed the Scottish observed the Sabbath "very reverently" while the French were not as respectful:

"I do not think I have ever seen [a Frenchman] with a prayer book or kneeling down."
