The proposed senior center at the former site of Benson’s Wild Animal Farm will cost $2.1 million, according to figures presented to the Board of Selectmen. Under the current proposal, the red-and-white two-story building will resemble a barn. It will house a senior center with a kitchen and dining area as well as a TV studio, where shows for the local cable channel may be produced. The building itself will cost $1.4 million; the estimated cost to prepare the site is $700,000, but some of the work could be done by the town Department of Public Works to reduce the cost. A warrant article to fund the proposal could be presented to voters as early as March.
