Recalled steroid distributed to 3 NH clinics
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services now says the recalled medication linked to a growing outbreak of meningitis that has sickened 119 people in at least 10 states and caused 11 deaths had been distributed to a third clinic location in the state.
The department said Tuesday that Pain Care LLC locations, in Somersworth, Merrimack and in Newington received the steroid. No cases of meningitis have been reported in the state.
The department said it was working with Pain Care to make sure all 742 patients who may have been exposed are notified by the end of the day on Tuesday.
Officials have tied the outbreak to steroid shots for back pain. The steroid was made by a specialty pharmacy in Massachusetts.
