CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte says she’s pleased that Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has accepted the Joint Chiefs of Staffs’ recommendation to open more combat roles to women.

Ayotte, a Republican who is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said she’s seen servicemen and women working together in a range of dangerous operations to achieve U.S. military objectives.

She says the announcement reflects the increasing role that female service members play in securing our country.end of story marker
