NASHUA, N.H. (AP) — Gov. Maggie Hassan has helped a group of volunteers pack care packages to ship to troops serving in the Middle East.
Hassan joined about 50 volunteers Saturday at the Nashua National Guard Armory for a project called ‘‘Moore Mart.’’ The group filled 750 boxes with candy, power bars, dental supplies, socks, hand warmers and other goodies, and topped them off with a handwritten thank-you note from area schools and churches.
‘‘Moore Mart’’ was started four years ago by a family that was trying to gather supplies for a relative and his fellow soldiers in Iraq.
The project has expanded to include volunteers from the community, who send packages not just to troops but to children in Iraq as well.
