House to vote on raising NH gas tax 15 cents
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire motorists would pay 15 cents more per gallon of gas or diesel fuel under a bill due to be voted on by the House on Wednesday.
New Hampshire has not raised its 18 cent tax in 22 years and supporters say more money is needed to finish expanding Interstate 93 and fix deteriorating roads and bridges. The bill calls for increasing the tax on gas over four years and on diesel over six years.
The original bill called for a 12-cent gas and diesel tax hike and a $15 increase in vehicle registration fees over three years.
Meanwhile, the Senate proposes legalizing video slots at a single casino to raise money for the highway projects.
