CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — A bill legalizing one casino in New Hampshire is coming before the state Senate for a vote Thursday.

Gov. Maggie Hassan supports the bill that would legalize up to 5,000 video slots and 150 table games. The bill is expected to pass the Senate easily, but it faces a much harder time in the House, which has rejected dozens of such bills over the years.

Bill supporters say it’s important that New Hampshire move quickly, to compete with Massachusetts, which already has approved three casinos and a slots parlor.

Though the casino’s location would be open to competition, most believe it would be on New Hampshire’s border with Massachusetts.

Hassan included $80 million in licensing fees in her budget to pressure lawmakers to approve a casino.end of story marker
