US Representative Carol Shea-Porter said that an estimated 3,800 people in New Hampshire are owed more than $3 million in unclaimed tax refunds for 2010. To collect the refund, people who did not file a tax return for 2010 must file one with the IRS no later than Tuesday. The Internal Revenue Service estimates that the 3,800 people in New Hampshire did not file a federal income tax return for 2010 and are owed a median refund of $602. The total in unclaimed refunds is $3,245,000. Shea-Porter said some people may not have filed because they had too little income to require filing, even though they had taxes withheld or made quarterly estimated payments.
