Body of Fallen Marine from N.H. Returned to Hometown

The body of a Marine who died last week in Afghanistan was returned to his hometown in New Hampshire today, NECN reports.

The remains of Lance Corporal Brandon Garabrant were brought to Manchester Airport around 11 a.m.

A procession to escort his body from the airport to a funeral home in Peterborough is scheduled for Saturday afternoon.

Garabrant, 19, of Peterborough, New Hampshire was one of three service members killed while fighting in Afghanistan, according to the Associated Press.

All three were killed [last] Friday in what the military described as a ‘‘hostile incident’’ in Helmand province. They were all assigned to the 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion (Forward) in the 2nd Marine Division.

Garabrant was promoted to lance corporal Dec. 1, 2011 and joined the Marine Corps in 2013 as a combat engineer. He was deployed to Afghanistan in March.

A memorial service for Garabrant will be held next Saturday at 10 a..m at Conval High School, according to the NECN report. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 2-3 p.m.
