They’ve fowled this up twice; A man in a giant chicken suit was arrested in Londonderry, New Hampshire earlier tonight. It’s not the first time the New Hampshire GOP has had a junior staffer caged by police for getting too aggro in a bird suit.
NH Journal’s John DiStaso took a photo of the offending fowl shadowing New Hampshire US Senator Jeanne Shaheen.
Londonderry Police did not immediately return call seeking comment, but WMUR is reporting Michael Zona, 23, of Manchester was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. Zona is a Republican party staffer and followed Shaheen while wearing the costume.
According to [Londonderry Police Detective Christopher] Olsen, Zona was told several times to “cease and desist his activities” around the office-holders, but he did it several more times, while flapping his chicken suit wings. He was taken into custody after officers saw him yelling at Shaheen and Hassan.
Zona told WMUR he was expressing his first amendment rights in the suit, highlighting Shaheen’s fear of hosting town hall meetings with constituents.
Zona’s an active Twitter user as well, using the social media platform to express his political views. He most recently retweeted an Aug. 16 New Hampshire GOP post calling Shaheen a chicken.
It seems the bird trick’s been a risky gamble for New Hampshire’s Republican Party before. A man in a duck suit was arrested outside of a Shaheen-John Sununu debate in 2008, leading to this feathery perp walk in a WMUR video from the event:
