Police officer cited for saving child's life

HANOVER, N.H. --A police officer was in the right place at the right time and did the right thing. Now, officer Steve Read is being called a hero for saving a baby's life.

Read was on patrol Tuesday evening when a woman flagged him down and told him a young child was having a medical problem. Read saw a woman sitting on the sidewalk, cradling her one-year-old who wasn't breathing and was turning blue.

Read prepared to perform CPR and after two quick breaths, the child coughed, began crying and breathing on his own. An ambulance arrived within minutes, but Read said that might have been too late.

He said the baby appeared to be doing fine when he saw him later at the hospital.
