UT names associate dean to interim head of law school

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. --Associate dean John Sobieski Jr. has been named interim dean of the University of Tennessee College of Law.

Thomas Galligan, law school dean since 1998, is leaving Aug. 1 to be president at Colby-Sawyer College in New London, N.H. The college announced Galligan's hiring in February.

Sobieski has been at the university for 34 years and has served as associate dean for academic affairs since 1995.

UT officials said the search for a permanent dean will begin next year.

"We appreciate John Sobieski's willingness to step up and see the college through this transition period," Chancellor Loren Crabtree said. "We also wish Tom Galligan best of luck in his new position in New Hampshire."
