Mass. teen dies at camp for lacrosse

PLAINFIELD, N.H. -- A Massachusetts teenager died while swimming in a pool at a summer youth camp, authorities said.

The 13-year-old from Chelsea was taking part in a program called MetroLacrosse at Kimball Union Academy. His name was not released.

Camp counselors and a lifeguard were supervising, Mike Schafer, head of the school, said in a news release on the school's website. The teen was pulled from the pool Wednesday night by a camp counselor who ``observed him in distress," Schafer said.

``Local emergency personnel were immediately called to the scene and attempted to revive the boy," Schafer said.

The teen was pronounced dead at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Schafer said.

An autopsy is being done. MetroLacrosse, which is not affiliated with the academy, has held a camp providing free lacrosse programs at Kimball for the past two summers.
