N.H. police crack down on drivers over holiday

CONCORD, N.H. -- New Hampshire state troopers might have writer's cramp after a holiday weekend in which they stopped 7,000 vehicles, wrote more than 6,000 tickets, and made 38 drunken-driving arrests. Extra highway patrols ran fromFriday through Tuesday.

State Police reported that troopers stopped 6,990 vehicles and wrote 2,200 speeding, inspection, or seat belt tickets. They also wrote 3,800 warnings. Among those stopped were three drivers clocked at 117 miles per hour on Interstate 95 and a motorcyclist clocked at 144 miles per hour on I-93.
