PEMBROKE, N.H.—Two flood-damaged New Hampshire towns are getting federal grants to help prevent similar disasters in the future.
U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes says Pembroke will get $150,000 to help buy areas prone to flooding by the Suncook River. More sediment was deposited along the river's bed when it changed course during April floods. Hodes says that means the river could overflow more easily.
Hodes says Epsom will get a $50,000 grant to remove sediment and debris that has filled a Webster Park swimming area. The money will be used to install barriers to redirect water and dredge out the sediment and debris acting as a dam.![]()
