CONCORD, N.H.—New Hampshire's attorney general is warning residents about an e-mail scam involving would-be state lottery winners.
Attorney General Kelly Ayotte says residents in the state and elsewhere have reported receiving emails saying they have won a state lottery prize, and that to collect, they must provide their passport and social security numbers.
Lottery Commission Executive Director Rick Wisler says the commission does send e-mails to players who request them, but never sends unsolicited e-mails asking for personal information.
Ayotte says e-mails not only mislead people into thinking they have won the lottery, but they ask for personal information which could lead to identity theft or other fraud.![]()
