NH residents charged in East Coast identity theft scheme
HOLLIS, N.H.—Two New Hampshire residents have been indicted in an identity theft scheme that stretched from New Hampshire to Virginia.
The U.S. attorney's office in Richmond, Virginia, says 35-year-old Robbie Joshua Converse of Keene and 40-year-old Leza Townsend, were named in a 14-count indictment. They were charged with stealing personal identification or checks from victims in New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts and Virginia, then forging and cashing the checks.
Authorities say they cashed stolen checks from August of last year through January. The checks ranged in value from $250 to $3,500.
Police in Hollis, New Hampshire, say Converse was arrested in Massachusetts last month. They say checks stolen from a Salem man were cashed at banks in Londonderry, Hudson and Hollis.
