Parents get approval to buy struggling Catholic school
GOFFSTOWN, N.H. --In an amazing turn of fortune, the owners of the struggling Villa Augustina School in Goffstown (New Hampshire) have approved selling the school to parents.
The development comes five months after the Religious order of Jesus and Mary told parents they could not support the school any longer, and planned to close it.
Since then, parents have collected $400,000 for repairs and have another $120,000 toward the purchase price. Parents also submitted a five-year plan for the future of the school.
The next step is drafting a formal purchase-and-sale agreement and closing on the deal.
The purchase would allow the school to reopen next year as an independent Catholic school for pre-kindergarten through the eighth grade.
