MANCHESTER, N.H.—Authorities have suspended the search for a man who jumped off the Queen City Bridge in Manchester after allegedly stabbing his estranged wife.

The woman was stabbed Friday afternoon and ran to a nearby apartment to get help. Police said her husband, 29-year-old Malual Woltong, went to the bridge and jumped into the fast-moving Merrimack River. Authorities say it is unlikely he would have survived given the height of the bridge and temperature of the water.

The woman remains in serious condition. Witnesses say Woltong stabbed her in the stomach and then in the back as her friends tried to help her escape.
