MANCHESTER, N.H.—About 50 people gathered at a Manchester rally to support national immigration reforms.
The "Liberty and Justice for All" rally Thursday at City Hall Plaza was part of a nationwide day of action for immigrant groups.
Forty-seven-year-old Maria Amaya, who owns a clothing store in Manchester, said she attended "to fight for my people." She's lived in the country for 30 years, during which time she's become a U.S. citizen.
Amaya said her daughter, who also is a U.S. citizen and is awaiting deployment as a member of the Air Force, had married an illegal immigrant from Mexico, who was deported in January.
Brenda Lett, president of the Manchester NAACP chapter, energized the crowd, saying people united will never be divided. Other supporters waved signs such as, "All Human Beings are Legal."
The New Hampshire Alliance for Immigrants and Refugees was the rally's prime sponsor.![]()
