CORNISH, N.H.—A familiar face won't be at the New Hampshire Statehouse next year.

State Senator Peter Burling says he will not run for a third term. Before serving in the Senate, Burling represented Cornish in the House of Representatives for 14 years. He also was House Democratic leader.

Burling says it's time to come home and let others have the privilege of serving the people of New Hampshire.

Burling won't be totally out of politics. He was just elected to a four-year term as a member of the Democratic National Committee, where he said he plans to work to protect New Hampshire's first-in-the-nation primary.
