BRENTWOOD, N.H.—Another four jurors have been selected in the insanity trial of killer Sheila LaBarre, putting the total number of jurors currently at 10.
The make-up of the jury so far is three men and seven women. The court will select 18 total jurors for the case.
The juror interview proceedings moved at a faster pace than on Tuesday because about one third of the potential jurors were immediately dismissed for various conflicts, including hardships at work and the expected birth of a child later this month.
The defense again objected to accepting potential jurors who said they felt police officers were more truthful than the average citizen. The issue was raised on Tuesday and was the cause of a number of juror dismissals.
Judge Tina Nadeau agreed that potential jurors who think police officers are to be given more clout than other witnesses should be dismissed. However, she said it is reasonable for people to expect the police to be truthful and those who give more nuanced answers about the veracity of law-enforcement officers will not automatically be rejected.
LaBarre has admitted to killing 24-year-old Kenneth Countie, formerly of Wilmington, Mass., in March 2006, and Michael Deloge, whose parents hadn't heard from him since 2004. She has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.![]()
