NH woman agrees to plead guilty for alleged embezzlement
BRENTWOOD, N.H.—A Hampton (New Hampshire) woman has agreed to plead guilty to charges that she stole thousands of dollars money from her late husband's law firm.
Fifty-two-year-old Deborah Woods was allegedly involved in embezzling more than $200,000 from the law offices of Gage & Woods, the Gage Law Office and Attorney Ronald Sutherland.
She is charged with theft, forgery and fraudulent credit card use.
Woods admitted to police that she committed the crimes before her 2006 arrest. Her lawyers tried to get her statements banned from trial, saying police did not read Woods her Miranda rights.
Last month, a judge ruled that her statements would be allowed in court.
Woods' husband, Stephen Woods, drowned in October 2005. He fell overboard during a yacht trip.
A civil lawsuit from Gage & Woods is pending.
