Parents, 2 daughters all getting Plymouth State degrees
PLYMOUTH, N.H.—It will be caps and gowns all around for the Munz family of Manchester this weekend.
Ed and Christine Munz and daughters Jennifer and Karen Munz all are getting degrees from Plymouth State University.
Each started graduate study at different times, and they didn't plan for a family graduation until they realized last summer that it might be possible. Some have had to speed things up a little to finish in time for Saturday's commencement.
"When we started, we had no idea we'd finish at the same time," said Christine. "We never planned this; it just came to us last year, as a big what if?"
Christine, 57, teaches music at Bedford's Riddle Brook Elementary. She's getting a Masters in Education.
Daughter Karen, 24, will receive a Masters of Art-Teaching. She's finishing up student teaching at Goffstown High.
Ed, 57, and daughter Jennifer, 28, both teach at Nashua's Bishop Guertin High School. He's getting an advance graduate degree in educational leadership and Jennifer is receiving a Masters in Education.
Jennifer occasionally took a class with her mother, and the two were referred to as "the Munz sisters".
College spokesman Chris Williams said having four family members receiving graduate degrees on the same day is a first for the school.
Plymouth State's Graduate Commencement will be held Saturday, at 10 a.m. in the John C. Foley Gymnasium.![]()
